“Set art free!” event – Exploring and remixing open collections
During the last weekend of May 2015, the Europeana Creative…
We warmly welcome you to an animated GIF workshop which will be organized as a part of the SMK Friday event ‘Set Art Free’ on May 29th from 14:00 until 17:00. Participation in the workshop is free.
In the workshop, we will be working with SMK’s public domain image collection. In the workshop, you will learn how to create animated GIFs with GIMP, Photoshop or the animated GIF maker. No prior knowledge is required – you just need to bring your laptop. We also recommend to install GIMP beforehand unless you already have it (or Photoshop) on your computer.
Please note that the workshop will be held in English.
Sign up for the workshop
Please sign up using this form. There are limited seats available, so don’t wait too long!
In case you are not able to join us at SMK, you can still submit your GIF via our Public Domain GIFs blog. Just make sure your GIF is made of SMK’s public domain images. You can find lower resolution versions of the images suited for GIF animations on Flickr. All the submitted GIFs and the ones created in the workshop will be presented at the SMK Friday event for a broader audience to enjoy.
If there are no more places available at the workshop, you might consider joining the Wikipedia edit-a-thon instead, which is also held at SMK from 14:00 to 17:00.
If you need inspiration for making GIFs, have a look at results from Tate Britain’s GIF party! Or have a look at the animated GIF collection of The Public Domain Review or fantastic works created by Scorpion Dagger and many others.
The session is organized by the Europeana Creative project in collaboration with SMK and facilitated by Kati Hyyppä, Neea Laakso & Sanna Marttila.
